Writing Quote Friday and a Contest Winner

Today’s writing quote comes from Stephen King…

“Writing isn’t about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it’s about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It’s about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Getting happy.”

I chose today’s quote because the minute I read it I got teary-eyed, and at the same time overwhelmed with excitement that there’s only a few more days to go until Along the Way Home is published (June 11th).

I can’t thank everyone enough for being by my side on this rocky road to publication (OK, now there’s tears. Actual tears. I’m pathetic). All your comments, all your support, and all the friendships I’ve made since starting this blog mean the world to me and I’m so blessed and thankful to see my work published.

And, since my twins and I are waiting for major events next week (they get out of school on the 13th) we are starting our days by listening to this song. Enjoy!

And finally, I’ve randomly selected a commentor from THIS CONTEST and am excited to declare Florence Fois as the winner! I’ve had some trouble reaching Kaye, so unfortunately there’s no book, but I’m going to dig deep in the Corbett prize bag and find a fun gift as a thank you for entering :) . Florence, send me your address and I’ll get out your prize right away.

Writing Quote Friday and Updates on my Cover and Rug Making

Today’s writing quote comes from Dorothy Parker…

“I hate writing. I love having written.”

And I have a few updates. The rag rug I am working on while waiting for my cover and release date is now two feet across. Yeah, I thought it would take a whole lot more time, but it’s seems when you work on it while watching hours of  mindless television shows are totally dedicated to your craft project it goes quick. Using the biggest hook available and making your strips extra wide and using the biggest stitch you know apparently helps too.

And help it did, because yesterday I got my cover finalized! I can’t show you yet (Astraea Press likes authors to wait until the actual release day to reveal their cover) but I can say it has a very “Western” feel to it.

So now my kiddos talked me into ripping up the matching top sheet and making the rug even bigger. I’ll keep you posted on my progress :D

What are you doing to fuel your creativity this weekend?

Quote Friday and a Writing Prompt Adventure

Today’s quote comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson…

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

I have an update on Tuesday’s birthday post. The hubby and I took our twins bowling for the first time. They beat me. By a lot. Both games. :D

And finally, my great writing friend, Florence Fois, is having a fun contest of sorts on her blog. You leave a one sentence writing prompt as a comment and in turn she’ll write a short story based on your prompt. I accepted the challenge, will you?

Quote Friday

Today’s quote is from Helen Keller…

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Writing Quote Friday

Today’s quote comes from Stephen King…

Stopping a piece of work just because it’s hard, either emotionally or imaginatively, is a bad idea. Sometimes you need to go on when you don’t feel like it, and sometimes you’re doing good work when it feels like all you’re managing is to shovel shit from a sitting position.

(Quote taken from King’s wonderful book, On Writing)

Writing Quote Friday

There comes a time in a writer’s life when they must ask themselves…

Are you a confident writer, or a delusional one? (Click on the red for the link)

Quote Friday

Today’s quote is from Anne Frank…

Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!

Quote Friday

Today’s quote comes from Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”

Writing Quote Friday

Today’s writing quote comes from F. Scott Fitzgerald…

All good writing is swimming underwater and holding your breath.

Funny Writing Insults

A dear writing friend sent me some funny writing themed insults and I couldn’t resist sharing…

“He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary.”- William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway).

“Thank you for sending me a copy of your book; I’ll waste no time reading it.”- Moses Hadas
