Writing Quote Friday

Today’s quote comes from Isabel Allende, author of Daughter of Fortune (a 2000 Oprah pick), and several others…

People think that they will sit down and produce the great American novel in one sitting. It doesn’t work that way. This is a very patient and meticulous work, and you have to do it with joy and love for the process, not for the outcome.

  1. I like this quote. It’s another of the it’s-not-the-destination-but-the-journey statements and is so true. When aspiring authors say they love writing but give up on it because they can’t get published, I have to wonder about the depth of that love.

  2. Carol,
I have to wonder how many wonderful books are abandoned only because the journey got hard (in other words, the author figured out the reality of getting published).

    Thanks for visiting,
    Christi
