Writing Quote Friday

Today’s quote comes from Richard Russo, winner of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for his fifth novel, Empire Falls.

Whatever you’re working on, take small bites. A few pages at a time. Whatever you’re working on should be the most exciting thing. The task will not be overwhelming if you can reduce it to its smallest component.

  1. E,
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I post writing quotes, usually by famous authors, every Friday so I hope to see you again 🙂

I think starting out with short stories is a great idea. Tackling a novel can be a bit daunting to a newbie (like me).

  2. Christi, did you forget your professional experience? I think what his quote also means … is take it one day at a time … each day a little and the next a little more and you don’t even notice how much you’ve done by the end of only one week.

    Great quote as usual. 🙂

  3. Florence,
I like to think of writing like the “Tortise and the Hare” story…keep going, no matter how slow and eventually you’ll finish :).

Have a great weekend and I’m still looking for your entry at the “Shhhhh” place 🙂
