Writing Quote Friday

Today’s quotes come from Beverly Cleary…

I read my books aloud before they were published.

Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school.

And finally, since I am a mother of twins, a quote I really relate to!

With twins, reading aloud to them was the only chance I could get to sit down. I read them picture books until they were reading on their own.

  1. Reading to my children started when they were in the highchair and continued for years until they got old enough to do most of their reading on their own.

Beverly Cleary … one of the all time greats in children’s books … was purchased and read and reread and cherished. Only last month I sent my daughter a cartoon and put under it … The Pest … because she was Romona the Pest for sure.

    Wonderful memories. thanks šŸ™‚

  2. oh you have twins! Fun fun! My kids love reading time. But only once it’s night time and they’ve gotten the antsies out of their pantsies. ;s

Be sure to post some Halloween pics!

  3. Ramblings,
I really enjoyed Beverly’s books as a kid, and now I am loving them all over again as I introduce my twins to them. We’ve started with Ramona and Beezus and I look forward to more.

  4. PK,
We have a ritual of reading time just before bed in the hopes that it calms them. Unfortunately it only works on one…usually the other is still raring to go :).

  5. I picked up a few Beverly Cleary books this summer at a book sale and am anxious to start reading.

I didn’t know you were a mother of twins! Wow! I’m in awe. šŸ™‚

  6. Laura,

The first three months were really hard…one because they were a month early so they ate all the time and didn’t know how to sleep for any measurable length of time…and two because we had no family and friends around to help.

However, now we’ve relocated and have lots of help and they’ve become the best of friends (and playmates) for each other which helps me catch a break :).

I hope you enjoy your books you found, they are a real treat!
