Writing Quote Friday

Today’s writing quote comes from Barbara Kingsolver…

“Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It’s the one and only thing you have to offer.”

PS. I saw this quote on Rachelle Gardner’s blog and loved it! Click here to check out Rachelle’s post on the subject.

  1. I love that quote. It goes to the heart of who we are … I also love Rachelle’s blog. She can wax poetic and she can throw cold water in your face. Whichever it is, she does it with class and kindness and unlike some other “agent” posts, she doesn’t spend any time trashing the queries she receives.

Thanks for the quote and the post by Rachelle.

    • Florence,

I have one of Rachelle’s authors, Jillian Kent, commited to coming on my blog next Wednesday and telling a bit about her journey to publication. And, she’s going to judge a fun contest!

  2. That is a good quote, Christi. Many of us have been guilty of looking over our shoulders. It takes time to shake that, to gain confidence, and simply write.

  3. Laura,

I loved that quote when I saw it on Rachelle’s blog and knew it would be perfect for one of my “Writing quote Fridays”. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Looking forward to seeing your contest entry for next Wednesday’s contest!
