If you don’t have that Stephen King book, “On Writing” I recommend it! It’s a stupendous mashup of writing tips, recounts of his own writing experiences and of experiences in life that have influenced his writing.
Christi, I agree that Stephan King’s is a superior book on writing, not to mention a great semi-autobiography of his life.
If you can believe in coincidences, I opened my mail today to find a recommendation from amazon. They “bundle” your likes from old searches. Yes, agreed On Writing is terrific.
I’d recommend, Save the Cat! excellent screenwriting book that applies equally to fiction writers. So many wonderful techniques in that book!
And I’m reading a book that has helped me amazingly called: Showing and Telling, by Laurie Alberts. It really hones down scene structure, summary, the different types of scenes, their uses, and much more. I was really pleasantly surprised by this book–I thought there would be nothing new in it at all, but so far it’s really helped me tighten my writing.
I’m interested to see what’s recommened to you–always on the lookout for great books about the craft.
