Celebrating the Release Day for my second novel, Tainted Dreams

Today is a huge day in my writing career…I’m celebrating the release of my second novel, Tainted Dreams!

This event didn’t come easy, and I’ve suffered a ton of setbacks on the way, which I discuss in great detail in this interview with Jessica Morrell.

CLICK HERE to see me share everything about getting published: the good, the bad, the frustrating, how my ineptness led to bouts of failure, how my determination led to success, and finally, how both my husband and Timothy Olyphant influenced my writing of Jake, the male lead character.

Above all, thank you to all my family and friends for your support!!!!!

anti hero

In my first book, Along the Way Home, my antagonist was the Oregon Trail. It was weird, writing something that wasn’t human to be “the bad guy”, but it was also a fun challenge.

In my next book, Tainted Dreams, I do have a human “bad guy” who plays the antagonist, bent on stopping my two lead characters from realizing their goals. And I admit, he was oh so much fun to write!

The meme above features one of my all time favorite antagonists, Boyd Crowder, star of the FX series, Justified.

friday high five

Wow! It’s been a while since I posted here on the blog, because I’ve been hard at work whipping my next book, Tainted Dreams, into shape. Now that it’s done and with my publisher, Astraea Press, I’m back at the blog and hard at work on my next book.

I’m thrilled to announced that my publisher has set a tentative release date for Tainted Dreams…May of 2015!

Which means edits and galleys are coming for me over the next two months…

Book Signing News!

Book Signing! I’ll be doing a book signing for my debut novel, Along the Way Home, in front of Third St Books, downtown Marysville WA at the following dates/times and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you there!

Friday, August 8th 1-5
Saturday, August 9th 11-3

Stop by, and we can chat about my current book, my next book, and best of all, Third Street Books will be doing hourly giveaways of free, signed books! Also, there will be several other authors doing signings too (not sure of their names or I’d post. I’ll update when I know).

I’m a RONE Award Winner!!

I’m honored to announce that my debut novel, Along the Way Home, is a 2014 RONE Award winner, American Historical category.

(Click here for a list of all the winners)

Budget issues meant I couldn’t attend the ceremony in Las Vegas, but fellow Astraea Press author, Frank Borne, who was there for his nominated book, Fame and Misfortune, was kind enough to accept in my absence and give my speech (which I wrote the morning of the awards ceremony and then went out to create sidewalk chalk art in the driveway with my 9yo daughter)

Here’s my speech 🙂

First, I’d like to thank everyone at InD’Tale Magazine for all the time and effort in putting together this event, and for all you’ve done to bring recognition to independent and small press authors.

I would like to dedicate this award to Stephanie Taylor, the owner of Astraea Press. She took a risk and said “Yes!” to me, and my first novel, Along the Way Home, when over sixty people had already rejected it. She believed in me when no one else did, and for that I am forever grateful.

Thank you, Stephanie!

Though I couldn’t attend, I was able to get updates via my laptop from insiders who attended, so I was able to follow along “live” during the awards, and celebrate with my family when I got the news.

Three other Astraea Press authors also had reason to celebrate that evening…

Calico Daniels, RONE Award winner, Novella category, for her novel, Fried Pickles and the Fuzz.

Wendy Knight, RONE Award winner, Young Adult Paranormal category, for her novel, Feudlings.

Jill Urbach won an Honorable Mention, Contemporary: Artists and Writer category, for her book, Two-Room Flat.

Thank you everyone who has supported and encouraged me and my writing over these past years!!!

Finalist News and Weekend Plans

Once again, I want to send a big thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me and my writing career these past years.

I’ve got some exciting news to share…My debut novel, Along the Way Home, is a finalist for a 2013 RONE Award in the American Historical category. Though I’m unable to make the trip to Las Vegas for the awards ceremony this Friday, I have made arrangements to get updates via fellow Astraea Press (my publisher) authors who are attending.

I’ll keep you all posted!

And, they gave me this FANTASTIC finalist emblem to use, so here I go 😀

What about you? Are you doing anything fun and exciting this weekend?

Book-Themed Birthday Cake and Quilt

To me, the absolute best part of being a writer is connecting with readers who enjoy my writing. Since the release of Along the Way Home I’ve chatted with many readers, and I love it!

Two of my favorite readers are Heather Garcia and Michelle Naquin. They were two of the first to contact me after the book released to say they enjoyed it, and they do the most creative things to show their support of me, and many other writers.

Like making me this, which I LOVE!

And just yesterday they did it again!

Look at this wonderful cake Michelle Naquin made for Heather Garcia’s birthday! It features books by her favorite authors, and Along the Way Home is one of them. I’m so honored to be included with authors Rachel Van Dyken, Kristin Vayden, and Nadine Millard!

And, there’s a quilt too! It has Heather’s favorite authors, books, and series by Rachel Van Dyken, Kristin Vayden, and Christi Corbett. (My book cover is the second one down on the far right side)
