A Special Guest Host for the Fourth of July!

Today’s guest host is Reid Lance Rosenthal, who is celebrating a milestone… two of his books were selected to be today’s Amazon Kindle Daily Deal!

You’ll recall Reid was the judge of the “Best First” contest, and even though he was in the midst of fighting to save his ranch from the Arapaho wildfires he still managed to fulfill his judging duty and pick the winners. He’s a man of his word even when faced with staggering challenges, and he’s a fantastic author too.

Take it away, Reid!

This sweeping multi-era series is compared by reviewers and authors to Lonesome Dove, Centennial, L’Amour (“with steam”) and called by some “the Gone With The Wind of the West.” The tale bursts with the action, romance and promise of historical America and the West.

The epic saga of Threads West begins in 1854 with the first of five, richly textured, complex generations of unforgettable, multicultural characters. The separate lives of these driven men and independent women from Europe and America are drawn to a common destiny that beckons seductively from the wild and remote flanks of the American West. Swept into the dangerous currents of the far-distant frontier by the mysterious rivers of fate, the power of the land and the American spirit, their journeys are turbulent quests intertwined with romance and adversity, passions and pathos, despair and triumph.

You will recognize the characters who live in these pages. They are you. They are us. This is not only their story. It is our story.

“Long ago, I fell madly in love with Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.… The splendor and adventure of  THREADS WEST has now surpassed my love of McMurtry’s Western saga…packed with adventure, romance, history, conflict, and emotion.… Far more romantic/sexy than McMurtry ever wrote…a real feel of how the West was won, by men AND women.… Five stars is not enough!”

~ Eve Paludan, Two-time #1 National bestseller, Writer’s Digest Book Club

“Fluent and strong…sensual, evocative and unforgettable…compared to McMurtry’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning Lonesome Dove and Michener’s Centennial.… Rosenthal’s epic masterpiece will rival even some of Louis L’Amour’s best loved work.”

Blog Posts and Contests Galore!

Many  fellow writers agreed to help spread the word about my release, and I’ve got a lot of blog posts lined up for this week. I’ll post them here as they go live. Right now there’s only one, but by the end of the week they’ll be many more 😀

Rose Gordon: In this post you’ll learn how talking too much in 9th Grade English led to an interesting discovery.

Rachel Van Dyken: How a Road Trip in a Crowded Hyundai Inspired My First Novel. (There’s a contest with this post!)

Angie Eads is featuring an excerpt where Jake (the rugged trail guide) and Kate (the prim society woman) first meet and immediately clash over what’s important enough to bring along. Hint, Kate wants china and dresses, Jake wants tools and spare wagon parts.

Given that Along the Way Home is set on the 1843 Oregon Trail, I’m doing several giveaways of an Oregon Trail themed prize package on several of my guest posts this week. All you’ll need to do is leave a comment and you’re entered to win!

So, what are you doing this week? Anything exciting?

Another Book Coming Soon for Reid Lance Rosenthal

Reid Lance Rosenthal will release another book in his Threads West series in only a few months! (Official release is planned for February 2013). This latest book is called, Uncompahgre—Where the Water Turns Rock Red.

(Click here for his interview and book trailers of his first two books)

You’ll remember Reid as the judge of the “Best First” Contest here on this blog. Not only did he generously offer great book prizes and critiques to the winners, he kept his word and judged the contest even as the horrible Arapaho fire threatened his ranch.

(Click here for the “Best First” contest details)

Recently he’s been on a book tour promoting his books (click on the link under his picture for details) and audio CD’s. The schedule is hectic…six signings in two and a half days, plus a 500 mile drive!

You can find more information about his book signings, his plans for the next three books in the series, and get details on how to order his audio cd’s (voiced by him!) on his Facebook page or his website.

Moriah Densley has selected the winner and runner-ups for the “What’s Going On Here?!” Caption Contest.

Congratulations to all the winners!

“Best First” Contest Update, Fires, and More

I heard from Reid about when he expects to announce the winners of the “Best First” contest. This is tentative, but he expects to notify me of the winners by this Friday, and I hope to have them posted here on Tuesday the 10th.

I know, I know. You’re reading this and thinking “Tentative?!” “Expects?!” “Hope to?!”

Yep, that’s what I said. And for good reason. I’m not holding him to either date because he’s got a lot going on right now.

If you recall, the first line of the bio paragraph from Reid’s interview on this blog reads, “Reid is fourth generation land and cattle.”

Reid is in the midst of the horrific wildfires gripping the nation right now, specifically the Arapaho Fire. On his Facebook page, he wrote that the situation is “… now grim. Beginning to move dozers, pumps, and other equipment up country to the cabins in the AM. Horse and cattle moving through opened gates down country.”

You can check out his page on Facebook for more details, pictures, and video. And, drop him a line of support and encouragement too if you’re so inclined.

Click HERE to view his personal page on Facebook, including photos of the fire and details of all he’s doing to save his ranch.

Click HERE to view the Threads West page Reid has up on Facebook. He has photos there as well.

Do you know anyone affected by the wildfires across America?

Contest Update, and Some Fun Links

The “Best First” contest was a rousing success and garnered a whopping THIRTY-FOUR entries!

I don’t envy Reid right now as being the one who has to sift through all those fantastic sentences and select three as winners (One Grand Prize winner and two runners-up). When I was compiling the list for Reid I couldn’t help but think how hard it was going to be for him to just pick three!

So, it’s little wonder that he hasn’t made his selection yet. While we wait, I found some fun links that I wanted to share…

Click HERE to see the newest editing symbols. They are hilarious!

Click HERE to see why I’m stalking the mailman as I await a package from Amazon that will contain what I hope will be the best writing tool evah! Seriously, I peer out my window when the mailman drives up to our box just hoping against hope that Amazon shipped it early. So far, no such luck. I think I’ve become Mrs. Kravitz by now I’m looking out the curtain so much 😦

Click HERE if you have no idea who Mrs. Kravitz is.

And finally, click HERE to learn about a book I wish I had when my twins were at that oh so tender age of not wanting to go to sleep—the hubby and I called that age zero to now. (Hint…the title is Go the F*&k to Sleep)
